Home vs Office Move: What's Different and How to Prepare

Relocating a business is a different beast from moving house. The stakes are higher, the timelines tighter, and the items often more complex. Here's what you need to know if you're planning a commercial move in Perth.
The Key Differences
With a home move, the main concern is your personal belongings and getting settled. With an office move, you're managing IT equipment, staff, clients, and operational continuity all at once. Key challenges unique to office moves: IT equipment and cabling, confidential documents, minimising business downtime, coordinating with building management, and staff communication.
Plan Further in Advance
For most home moves, 2–4 weeks notice is fine. For office relocations, we recommend starting planning at least 6–8 weeks out. This gives you time to notify clients, coordinate IT disconnection and reconnection, and ensure the new premises are ready.
Move After Hours or on Weekends
Many businesses choose to move on a Friday evening or over the weekend to minimise disruption to operations. We accommodate after-hours and weekend availability at Western Co Transport — ask when you book.
Label Everything by Department
Rather than labelling boxes by content, label by department and destination area in the new office. This makes unpacking and setup dramatically faster.
Notify Clients and Update Your Address
Before moving day, update your address on Google Business Profile, your website, and any business directories. Send a brief email to clients with your new address and any expected disruption to service.
